Author Biographies

Martha Cecilia Díaz Morante is a PhD candidate in the Interinstitutional Doctorate in Environmental Sciences at the University of Cauca, Colombia, where she is part of the Environmental Studies Group (GEA) of the Faculty of Exact, Natural and Educational Sciences. She holds a Master's degree in Environmental Intervention and Management: person and society, from the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​Spain, as well as a Master's degree in Engineering from the Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexico. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering from the Central University of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Her academic and professional interests focus on Environmental Sciences, Environmental Education and Communication, and interdisciplinary research in Socioecological Systems.
Apolinar Figueroa CasasBiologist from Universidad del Cauca, with a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University of Barcelona (Spain) and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia (Spain). He is a professor at Universidad del Cauca, founder and director of the Environmental Studies Group (GEA), and coordinator of the Interinstitutional Doctorate in Environmental Sciences. Dr. Figueroa has served as principal investigator and director of numerous research projects focused on environmental impact assessment and the development of methodologies for its application in the humid tropics. His research interests include the vulnerability of ecological systems to extreme climate variability and change, as well as the use of technological platforms for environmental management and early warning systems related to climate change and variability in regions with industrial agriculture and food security challenges.
Cristian Méndez Rodriguez. Engineer in Industrial Automation from Universidad del Cauca, with a Master’s degree in Automation and Applied Informatics from École Centrale de Nantes (France), and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Universidad del Cauca. He currently serves as a professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Fundación Universitaria de Popayán (FUP) and as a visiting professor in the graduate program at Universidad del Cauca. He leads FUP’s Intelligent Management Systems (IMS) research group. His research areas include energy and environmental management systems, socio-ecological systems, the circular economy, and the digital transformation of the agricultural sector.
