Author Biographies

Dr. Alessandra Bazo Vienrich is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Rhode Island College. A sociologist of migration, education, and race, her research examines how immigration policies and practices across local, state, and federal levels shape the incorporation trajectories of Latina/o/x/e immigrant youth and young adults. Her earlier work focused on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients who came of age while undocumented, analyzing how they navigated and made sense of the pursuit of higher education. More recently, Dr. Bazo Vienrich has shifted her attention to the role of high school counselors in shaping the postsecondary opportunities for immigrant students with precarious legal status. Her scholarship has been supported by both internal and external funders, and her current research is funded by a grant from the Spencer Foundation.
