Dr. Nick Merna is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY, USA. He completed his B.S. studies in Bioengineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, in 2009, M.S. studies in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, CA, USA, in 2012, and Ph.D. studies in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, CA, USA, in 2014. He leads an NIH-funded project exploring the use of plant-derived biomaterials as small-caliber vascular scaffolds and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of students and faculty. His research interests include tissue engineering, particularly the development of plant-based vascular grafts through decellularization and mechanical conditioning.
