Nóra Szigeti, MD, PhD, habil., an assistant professor, completed her studies at the Department of General Medicine at the Medical University of Pécs from 1990 to 1996. She passed her internal medicine specialist exam in 2001, the gastroenterology specialist exam in 2004, the hypertonology specialist exam in 2014, and the palliative medicine license exam in 2019. She earned her PhD in 2010 and her habilitation doctorate in 2024. Since 1996, she has been employed at the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine and the Nephrology and Diabetology Center at the University of Pécs, where she is currently an assistant professor. Since 2014, she has served as the head of the clinic's emergency department. Additionally, she became the Head of the General Internal Medicine Department and the Endoscopy Laboratory in 2020, and in 2023, she was appointed the Head of the Colorectal Public Health Screening Center. In 2019, Dr. Szigeti received the Dean's Commendation, and in 2021 and 2023, she was awarded the Certificate of Recognition from the Ministry of Human Resources. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Hungarian Society of Internal Medicine, the Hungarian Gastroenterological Society, the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists & Oncologists (Hungarian Chapter), the Hungarian Hypertension Society, the Pécs-Baranyai Hospice Foundation, the Hungarian Hospice-Palliative Association, and the European Association for Palliative Care.
Prof. Botond
Csiky, MD, PhD, med. habil., graduated from the University Medical School of
Pécs. He is currently a Professor at the 2nd Department of Medicine and the
Nephrological Center at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pécs.
Additionally, he serves as the Medical Director of the Dialysis Center of Pécs.
His educational background are specialty examination in Internal Medicine
(1998), Nephrology (2000), and Hypertension (2001). He obtained his PhD degree
in Medicine in 2000) and completed his Habilitation in 2008. Prof. Csiky is a
member of several professional organizations, including the European Renal
Association/European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA/EDTA), the
Hungarian Nephrological Society, and the Hungarian Society of Hypertension. He
has served as a co-investigator in human phase IV antihypertensive
pharmacological studies conducted in Hungary and the United States. He has also
been the principal investigator in phase II and III studies. Additionally, he
has conducted studies on patients undergoing chronic dialysis, and has
completed six studies on HIF (hypoxia-inducible factor) inhibitors in patients
with renal anemia.
Ágnes Csikós MD, PhD, med. habil., an associate professor, graduated from
Pecs University Medical School and specialized in Family Medicine and
Palliative Care. She is Director of Institute of Primary Health Care at University of
Pecs Medical School. She established the first Department of Palliative Care in the
country. teaches medical, nursing and pharmacy students, residents, CME
participants and Ph.D. students. Agnes initiated the establishment Pecs-Baranya
Hospice Program in 2004, providing home hospice care regionally. She provides direct
patient care in various clinical settings and gives palliative care consultations to
other specialists. She leads national research and participates in international research
programs, and is the author and editor
of the book titled “Palliative Care”, published in Hungarian in 2022. She teaches symptom management
and pain control, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care, and puts emphasis
on education of the "multidisciplinary team" approach. She is pioneering the introduction of new forms of palliative care services in Hungary and runs the first
Palliative Care Outpatient Clinic at the Department of Oncology. She is President of the National
Hospice-Palliative Advisory Board of the Ministry of Health, board member of the Hungarian Hospice-Palliative
Care Association and the Hungarian Pain Society. Agnes is passionate about developing and improving
palliative care locally and globally through clinical care, education and
research.
Dr. Balázs Sági, born in 1978, is an internist and
nephrologist with extensive clinical, academic, and research experience. He
graduated in medicine from the University of Pécs in 2003, obtained his
specialization in internal medicine in 2008, nephrology in 2011, and was
certified in hypertension care in 2015, followed by a PhD in 2019 focusing on
arterial stiffness and cardiovascular complications in chronic kidney disease,
earning a diabetology license in the same year. He has been affiliated with the 2nd
Department of Internal Medicine and Nephrology and Diabetes Centre of the
University of Pécs throughout his career, progressing from resident to
consultant, and since 2017 has served as clinical chief physician, becoming an
assistant professor in 2021. In addition, he has been deputy medical director
of the Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Centre in Pécs since 2011 and has led
quality assurance at his department since 2010. His postgraduate activities
include participation as subinvestigator in several Phase IIb and III
international clinical trials with Mitsubishi, Amgen, Bayer, Astellas, and GSK,
supported by GCP certification obtained in 2016. Alongside clinical and
research commitments, Dr. Sági has been actively involved in teaching medical
students since 2004 in internal medicine and since 2005 in nephrology and
diabetology.
