Prof. Ravit Hananel is the chair of the Department of
Public Policy and the founder and head of the MA track in Urban and
Planning Policy and Design at Tel Aviv University. She holds a master’s degree in political science from Tel-Aviv University and a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Hananel spent her post-doctorate period as a Fulbright fellow at the
Graduate School of Design (GSD), Harvard University, particularly for disadvantaged
populations. Her research engages in spatial and urban studies and focuses on
the relationship between decision-making in spatial public institutions and
questions about distributive justice and social equality. Her papers are published in leading journals in urban
studies and urban and regional planning, such as Cities, Habitat
International, Urban Studies, Progress in Planning, Land
Use Policy, and more. Prof. Hananel (together with Prof. Fishman) won the prestigious
research grant of the Germany-Israel Foundation (GIF), titled: “Toward Just
Renewal Energy Policy: International Analysis of Equity in Benefits from
Decentralized Generation,”, which seeks to build a model for the participation of
disadvantaged populations in the production of DRE. This is an international study spanning four countries:
Israel, Germany, India, and Rwanda.
