Alberto Cliquer Jr. received his Ph.D. from Strathclyde University in 1988. In 2000, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). He has been a full professor in the Department of Orthopedics at USP since 2003. He has also been a full professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at USP since 1998. He is a reviewer for the Icelandic Research Fund (IRF) and the Medical Research Council (MRC). He is a member of the Brazilian Health and Engineering Committees in Brasília and a founding member of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society (IFESS). Additionally, he is a full member of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the chief editor of the Brazilian Journal of Orthopedics and Traumatology. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in London since 2017. In 1997, he was awarded 1st and 2nd prizes in rehabilitation (out of over 150 candidates) from the National Council for Science and Technology (CNPq). He was the 2013 Health Prize National Winner (Abril Publisher Brazil) and achieved the highest national level as researcher (#1A) from CNPq in 2009. Recently, he was an invited speaker at Oxford University. He received the Spine Biofusion Project Best Poster Award Biodevices 2020 in Malta.
