He was born in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico. He holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering, specializing in Forestry from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Guadalajara; a Master of Science in Forestry and Forest Management from the Postgraduate College of Chapingo; and a Doctor Rerum Naturalium from the University of Freiburg, Germany. His research includes: (a) epidometry of natural regeneration of coniferous forests; (b) evaluation and monitoring of tropical forests; and (c) commercial forest plantations to evaluate carbon accumulation and physical–mechanical properties of wood. He has advised and supervised postgraduate and undergraduate theses. He has published one book as sole author, 15 as co-author, and more than 20 international and national articles, and is Vice President of the Mexican Society of Forest Resources (SOMEREFO). He is currently a Research Professor in the Department of Forest Production at the University of Guadalajara. He collaborates as an external professor in the Doctoral Program in Ecophysiology and Genetic Resources and as a professor in the Agricultural Engineering Program with a Forestry Orientation. He is head of the Academic Body UDG-CA-858: “Ecology and Management of Natural and Artificial Forests,” a member of the Academic Sector in the State Technical Committee for Forest Health, and a member of the National System of Researchers (Level I).
