Usama El Shamy is a Professor and Interim Department Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lyle School of Engineering, Southern Methodist University. He received his B.S. and M.S., both in Civil Engineering, from Alexandria University in 1991 and 1996, respectively, and earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2004. He was the Bronze Winner in the Wharton-QS Stars Reimagine Education Competition for the project ‘Integration of Major Research Instrumentation in Undergraduate Engineering Education at Remote Campuses’. His main research interests include granular materials, computational geomechanics, multiscale multiphase simulations of geotechnical systems, and engineering education.
