Prof. Dr. Zhi Chen received his PhD degree from the University of Regina, Canada, and B.Eng. from the Dalian University of Technology, China. He worked at the University of Regina, the National Research Council Canada (NRC), and the Oil & Gas industry before he joined Concordia University in 2004. His research interests include Modeling of Pollutants’ Fate and Transport in the Environment, Risk Assessment, Air Pollution, and Environmental Application of Systems Analysis and Information Technology. Research results and the developed models have been applied to pollution control planning, the management of soil and groundwater contamination, and coastal environmental protection.
Prof. Dr. Jinguang Hu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada. He leads the “Biomass & Biorefinery Research Lab” at the University of Calgary. His current research is supported by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) and focuses on biomass valorization, sustainable energy, bioinspired materials/systems, and protein engineering for Energy, Environmental, and Biomedical applications. He is the External Advisory Board member of the Canada Biomass Energy Network, a member of the “China-Canada Joint Centre for BioEnergy”, a Research Fellow of GBIC, a recipient of the “S.C. Trindade Award”, and an active participant in the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy division. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member for Chemical Synthesis, Bioresources and Bioprocessing, Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering Resource Chemicals and Materials.
Prof. Dr. Xiaolei Wang is a Canada Research Chair in Batteries for Sustainability and a full professor of chemical engineering at the University of Alberta. He runs his Nano For Advanced Clean Energy (NanoFACE) laboratory focusing on the rational design, development, and application of novel nanostructured materials for energy-related technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, metal-air batteries, supercapacitors, and electrocatalytic systems. Before joining UofA, he worked as a tenure-track assistant professor at Concordia University from 2017 to 2019 and postdoctoral fellow researcher at the University of Waterloo from 2014 to 2017. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, 2013), M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University (TJU, 2007), and B.Sc. in Polymer Chemical Engineering at Dalian University of Technology (DUT, 2004). Dr. Wang is the recipient of Canada Research Chair (Tier 2), FoE Mid-Career Research Award (2023), NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement Award (DAS, 2018), Petro-Canada Young Investigator Award (2018), and Concordia University Research Chair-Young Scholar (2019).
Dr. Chunjiang An is an Associate Professor in the Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University and Concordia University Research Chair in Spill Response and Remediation. His research interests include a broad range of topics related to pollution control, risk assessment, and systems analysis. Dr. An is a licensed Professional Engineer, Associate Editor of Journal of Environmental Informatics, Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, and Cleaner Waste Systems, Managing Editor of Environmental Systems Research, and editorial board member of 13 international journals such as Journal of Hazardous Materials and Environmental Advances. He is also the Guest Editor for 13 special issues in some international journals. Dr. An has published over 210 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. An's interdisciplinary activities have been supported by some significant research grants from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, etc.
