Dr. Jamie C. Barner is a health outcomes researcher, Division Head, and Professor in the Health Outcomes Division. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin and both her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacy Administration from Purdue University. Dr. Barner’s research includes understanding factors that impact health care utilization and costs. Her work typically examines medication utilization patterns (adherence, persistence, switching) and their impact on health-related outcomes such as emergency department visits and hospitalizations. To address these issues, she utilizes real-world data (e.g., large claims databases) and advanced statistical methods.
Dr. Kenneth A. Lawson is a Professor at the College of Pharmacy, The University of Texas. After graduating from The University of Texas (UT) at Austin College of Pharmacy, Dr. Lawson practiced in community and institutional settings for over 11 years before entering the pharmacy graduate program at UT, where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacy Administration. He joined the faculty at the UT College of Pharmacy in 1992 and is currently the SmithKline Centennial Professor Emeritus in the Health Outcomes Division. Dr. Lawson’s teaching interests include health care systems and community pharmacy management in the professional program, and health care systems, research methods, and data analysis in the graduate program. His research interests include utilization and expenditure patterns, and factors affecting the utilization of and expenditures for prescription medications and other health care services.
