Janaina Sena de Souza, Ph.D., is a Project Scientist at the University of California, San Diego, in the Department of Pediatrics. She earned her doctorate in Medicine (Endocrinology) from the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil, with a focus on endocrinology and neurodevelopment. Dr. de Souza completed postdoctoral training in neurobiology at UC San Diego and has over a decade of experience in molecular and cellular neuroscience. Her research focuses on thyroid hormone signaling in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as the impact of environmental contaminants on neural cells, using human iPSC-derived models. A recognized specialist in the field, she has served as Guest Editor for several special issues. Dr. de Souza is a member of the American Thyroid Association and Sigma Xi and has received multiple academic fellowships.
