W. Paul Mckinney is Professor Emeritus, University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences (ULSPHIS), Louisville, Kentucky. He formerly served as Interim Dean, Associate Dean for Research, and Director of the Center for Health Hazards Preparedness, ULSPHIS. Previously, he was named V.V. Cooke Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and served as a staff physician at the Robley Rex Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Louisville, Kentucky. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas and completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following residency, he served as Epidemiology Intelligence Service Officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta, Georgia. Thereafter, he was a faculty member of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later became the Section Chief of the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. After arriving in Louisville, he served as a liaison member for the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), CDC for 23 years. His research efforts at the ULSPHIS have focused on the education of healthcare providers regarding the recognition and management of biological and biochemical agents and the use of vaccines to mitigate biological threats.
