Dr. Fan Zhang is an Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering and Design, University of Sussex, where she has been a faculty member since 2020. She received her Ph.D. in 2013 from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and worked as a researcher there from 2013 to 2020. Prior to her doctoral studies, she earned her Master’s degree from Xiamen University in 2009 and her Bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University in 2006. Her research focuses on advanced materials and innovative technologies, with interests spanning the passivation and corrosion mechanisms of advanced alloys (e.g., super stainless steel, aluminum alloys, copper alloys), biobased multifunctional and smart surfaces (anti-wear, anti-corrosion, self-healing), and self-powered status sensing and environmental energy harvesting using triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG). She has consistently secured funding from prestigious organizations such as EPSRC and the Royal Society, driving impactful research and innovation in her field.
