Author Biographies

Dr. Munir Ahmad holds a PhD in Computer Science. He is a seasoned professional in the realm of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), Geo-Information Productions, Information Systems, and Information Governance, boasting over 25 years of dedicated experience in the field. Dr. Munir's expertise spans Spatial Data Production, Management, Processing, Analysis, Visualization, and Quality Control. Throughout his career, Dr. Munir has been deeply involved in the development and deployment of SDI systems, especially in the context of Pakistan, leveraging his proficiency in Spatial Database Design, Web, Mobile and Desktop GIS, and Geo Web Services Architecture.
Dr. Asmat Ali holds a PhD in Remote Sensing and GIS. He currently serves as the Director of Cartography and GIS at Survey of Pakistan. As Project Director, he successfully led the Feasibility Study for the Establishment of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Pakistan. In 1998, Dr. Asmat graduated from the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands. His MSc thesis was titled “Potential of Public-Private Partnership for NSDI Implementation in Pakistan.” The title of his doctoral dissertation was “Spatial Data Infrastructure as the Means to Assemble Geographic Information Necessary for Effective Agricultural Policies in Pakistan.” With over 37 years of experience in geospatial information production and management, Dr. Asmat has served on several operational, administrative and instructional roles. In 2008, SDI Asia-Pacific recognized him as the Focal Point for SDI Development in Pakistan. In 2016, the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association acknowledged his contributions and honored him as the SDI Implementer from Pakistan.
Dr. Muhammad Nawaz is a Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore. Dr. Nawaz has expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GISs) and Decision Support Systems (DSS), with over 25 years of research experience in a broad range of issues relating to catchment management and sustainable development.
Dr. Farha Sattar is a multidisciplinary researcher and lecturer at Charles Darwin University, Australia. With an exceptional background in mathematics, geospatial science, Geographic Information Systems (GISs), Remote Sensing (RS), Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and a passion for advancing STEM education, Dr. Farha's expertise spans various disciplines, including mathematics and geoscience education, STEM education, cognitive development, experiential learning, inquiry-based learning, drone technology, spatial modelling, and 3D mapping.
Hammad Hussain is currently a postgraduate (MS) student of Remote Sensing and GIS (RS&GIS) at the Institute of Geo-Information & Earth Observation, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He graduated with a degree in Software Engineering from COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus, Pakistan, in 2024. He successfully completed an internship In 2023, at Survey of Pakistan https://www.surveyofpakistan.gov.pk/. During the internship, Hammad Hussain worked on: i) Geospatial data development using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques. ii) Assessment of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) websites and their improvement with respect to SDI services. He has co-authored research papers and book chapters.
