Dr. Shafayet Ahmed obtained his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. He is an assistant professor in Western Michigan University's Department of Civil and Construction Engineering. He is the director of the Sustainable Construction and Decision Making lab. Before joining WMU, he worked as a lecturer at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. His research focuses on sustainable and environmentally friendly construction materials, construction air pollution, and decision support systems related to construction project management. He has extensive research experience with mass timber building materials and their implications in the U.S. construction industry.
