Author Biographies

Dana Lewis is an independent researcher, developer, and founder of OpenAPS (the open source automated insulin delivery system). She is a leader and investigator in multiple international, cross-disciplinary research consortiums and grant-funded research projects. She authored the book, "Automated Insulin Delivery: How Artificial Pancreas “Closed Loop” Systems Can Aid You In Living with Diabetes", to help more people understand automated insulin delivery systems. Her research interests and publications span diabetes technology, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (known as EPI or PEI), and patient-developed technologies ranging from open-source tools to mobile apps and patient-reported symptom scores.
Dr Amanda Landers is Head of Department, Medicine, at the University of Otago, Christchurch. She completed her PhD studies in 2023 on advanced COPD at Otago University and was awarded a Distinction. She leads the multi-national, multi-disciplinary ASPERT research group investigating pancreatic cancer and malabsorption. She is a member of the National Palliative Care Steering Group for Health NZ. Her teaching disciplines include palliative medicine, symptom management, and communication skills.
