Prof. Dr. Bjoern M. Eskofier received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
(FAU), Germany, in 2006. He completed his Ph.D. at the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Benno Nigg in 2010. From 2011 to 2017, he served as Assistant Professor and Head of the Digital Sports Group at the Pattern Recognition Lab at FAU. Since 2017, he has been a DFG-Heisenberg Professor and the Head of the Machine Learning and Data Analytics Lab at FAU. He also leads the Department of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering (AIBE). In 2016, he was a Visiting Professor at the Motion Analysis Lab at Harvard Medical School. Prof. Eskofier's previous roles include Research Staff Member at the Digital Sports Group (2006–2008) and Freelance Classification Software Developer for Adidas AG (2010). His research interests include machine learning, digital health, wearable computing, and intelligent systems in sports and biomedical engineering.
