Author Biographies

Professor Lisa Waddington holds the European Disability Forum Chair in European Disability Law at Maastricht University in the Netherlands.  Her principal area of research lies in European and comparative disability law, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and European and comparative equality law in general. She also has a particular interest in how universities can be made welcoming and inclusive places for people with disabilities, including students and staff, and carries out research in this field. She is the disability coordinator of the European Network of Experts on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, a senior member of the European Disability Expertise network (EDE) and a coordinator of the Disability Rights Working Group of the Berkeley Center on Comparative Law and Anti-Discrimination Law. Furthermore, she is a member of the Maastricht Centre for European Law, the Ius Commune Research School, the Maastricht Centre for Human Rights, and a member of the Advisory Board of Berkeley Center on Comparative Law and Anti-Discrimination Law. She has been a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, the University of Melbourne, Leeds University, and the University of Bergen (Norway). She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Université Saint-Louis, Brussels, in 2023.
