Prof. Carol Stanciu, MD, FRCP (London), rector of the "Gr. T. Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi (1992–2004), dean of the Faculty of Medicine of “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi, Romania (2004–2008), president of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Romanian Society of Digestive Endoscopy, president of the Society of Doctors and Naturalists from Iasi; representative for Eastern Europe in the International Society for Disease of the Esophagus; chairman of the Ethics Committee for two consecutive terms of the World Organization of Gastroenterology. He graduated from the "Mihai Viteazul" Military High School in Alba-Iulia (1957), then from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iasi (1963).
Prof. Anca Trifan, MD, PhD, FEBGH, FRCP (London), Professor of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, and Director of the Department of Internal Medicine of the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi, Romania, Head of the Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Iasi, Romania. Her research interests include viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, liver transplant, acute-on-chronic liver failure, non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease, biliary tract disorders, and Clostridium difficile infection. She has published numerous original papers, books and chapters of books and has been actively involved in the peer-review process of many high-impact factor journals. She has been involved in medical teaching from the beginning of her career. She has received many prizes from scientific organizations (e.g., Rising Stars in Gastroenterology awarded by UEG). She is the past president of The Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, a member of The Academy of Medical Sciences, a member of the European Board of Gastroenterology, an AGA fellow, and a member of The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
