Dr. Ernest Chi Fru received his Ph.D. in Geomicrobiology (2006) and MSci in Biology (2002) from Gothenburg University, Sweden. He also holds an MSc (1999) and a BSc (1997) in Microbiology from the University of Buea, Cameroon. He is currently a Reader (Associate Professor) in Geomicrobiology and Biogeochemistry at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Cardiff University. His previous academic appointments include positions at Stockholm University, the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Newcastle University, the University of Windsor, and the University of East Anglia. His research has been recognized with prestigious honors, including a Marie Curie Fellowship (2011–2013) and a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant (2013–2018). He served as a councillor of the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) from 2020 to 2024 and currently sits on the EAG Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee.
