Dr.
Ramiro Avalos-Ramírez holds
a DVM (Universidad
Autónoma de Nuevo León, Mexico, 1988), an MSc in
Microbiology (UANL, 1995; thesis on bovine leukemia
virus), and a PhD in
Veterinary Medicine (Justus Liebig
University, Germany, 2002; thesis on pestivirus phylogenetics). His
teaching disciplines include infectious disease, animal virology, and
veterinary public health. As a Professor
and Senior Researcher with over 30 years of experience, he specializes in zoonotic pathogens and
those affecting animal reproduction (leptospirosis, brucellosis, and
pestiviruses), as well as One Health strategies for livestock.
A Level I Member of Mexico’s National Research System (SNI), he leads the Veterinary Epidemiology Academic Group and serves on the CONASA Semen and Embryos Committee. His work bridges diagnostics, molecular epidemiology, and
risk assessment in farms, with 42+ peer-reviewed publications. He is an active member of the Mexican
Association of Virology and the College
of Veterinarians of Nuevo León, advocating for science-based animal health
