Conrad Michael James is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Comparative Literature. He received his Ph.D. in modern and medieval languages from the University of Cambridge. He has taught at the University of Durham and the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and at the University of Houston in the United States. James’s main areas of interest
include the literary and visual cultures of the Spanish Caribbean. He is the author of Filial Crisis and Erotic Politics in Black Cuban Literature, Writing the Afro-Hispanic: Essays on Africa and Africans in the Spanish Caribbean (2012), and The Cultures of the Spanish Caribbean (2000). He is currently working on a monograph on the transnational geographies of 21st-century Caribbean fiction.
