Author Biographies

José Arturo Molina Mora is a full professor and researcher at the Faculty of Microbiology and the Center for Research on Tropical Disease at the University of Costa Rica. His research focuses on bioinformatics, mathematical and computational modeling, systems biology, and artificial intelligence/data mining, particularly in projects that examine the complexity of biological systems related to human diseases, antibiotic resistance, and genomic surveillance of emerging pathogens. He also teaches in the graduate program in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the University of Costa Rica. Molina holds degrees in Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and Mathematics from the University of Costa Rica. He earned a Master’s Degree in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology and a Ph.D. in Sciences with an emphasis in Bioinformatics. During his doctoral studies, he received training in Artificial Intelligence Analysis at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of La Coruña, Spain, and in Bioinformatics at the Institute of Human Phenomics at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He was awarded the 2024 Award for Innovation in Microbiology, presented by Biocientífica Internacional and the Professional College of Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry of Costa Rica, as well as the 2025 Award for Professional Excellence and an Honorary Doctorate by the International Organization for Inclusion and Quality Education (OIICE).
