Chien-Cheng Chang received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1980. In 1982, he was awarded a University Fellowship to pursue advanced graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley, and he received a Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics in 1985. After that, he worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) as a Research Associate. In 1986, he went to Minneapolis, holding a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications. Since 1987, he has been a faculty member at the Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University, and currently, he is a Distinguished Professor. From July 2005 to June 2009, he held a joint appointment at Academia Sinica to establish the Division of Mechanics and served as its Head in the Research Center for Applied Sciences. From August 2009 to July 2012, he served as the Director of the Institute of Applied Mechanics at National Taiwan University. His fields of research interest include Biomedical Imaging (ultrasound, optical coherence tomography), Theory and Application of Microstructures (graphene, carbon nanotube, periodic structures), Energy Research (wind energy, solar energy, lithium battery), Biomimetics Research (locomotion of birds, fish, and microorganisms), Electrokinetics, and fabrication techniques in nano- and micro-fluidics, transport, mixing, and separation.
