Author Biographies

PSM earned her degree in Biology from the Federal University of Goiás (UFG) and completed a master's in Animal Biosciences at the same institution. She is presently pursuing her Ph.D. in Genetics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Her academic trajectory has focused on conservation, preservation, and fauna ecology studies, with particular expertise in small mammal research. Currently in her doctoral program, she is examining patterns of phenotypic and genetic variation in neotropical small mammals, specifically investigating how environmental gradients shape their evolutionary diversification.
TSC is a biologist with a Master’s and Ph.D. in Sciences. His work focuses on environmental health, with an emphasis on the ecology of wild mammals and their parasites. He has experience in interdisciplinary projects exploring the connections between biodiversity, parasitology, and risks to human and environmental health.
Cibele Rodrigues Bonvicino holds a degree in Biological Sciences Teaching and a degree in Biological Sciences from São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1983), a master's in Biological Sciences (Zoology) from the Federal University of Paraíba (1988), and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Genetics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994). She is currently a senior researcher at the National Cancer Institute, a collaborating researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), and a permanent professor and advisor in graduate programs in Biological Sciences (Zoology) and Genetics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She has experience in the field of genetics, working mainly on the following topics: human genetics with an emphasis on breast cancer, cytogenetics, evolution and taxonomy of mammals, and zoonotic reservoirs.
Dr. Roberto do Val Vilela holds a Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology from the University of São Paulo (USP). Since 2013, he has advanced research in Public and Wildlife Health at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), Brazil’s leading institution for health science and technology. His work centers on animal evolution, with expertise in coevolution, cytogenetics, molecular systematics, phylogeography, and parasitology—particularly in the context of zoonoses and the One Health approach. He serves as a member of curatorial staff of the Integrated Collection of Reservoir Wild Mammals (COLMASTO/Fiocruz) and actively contributes to field-based biodiversity surveys, genomic surveillance, and the MEPA network for emerging pathogens. A seasoned mountaineer, Dr. Vilela combines technical proficiencies—such as rock and ice climbing, speleology, and scuba diving—with scientific missions in extreme and remote environments. He has participated in multiple Antarctic expeditions as part of the Brazilian Antarctic Program, supporting field research and logistics under polar conditions. Driven by a deep commitment to science and exploration, he integrates evolutionary biology, biodiversity monitoring, and public health to address ecological and epidemiological challenges. His interdisciplinary profile bridges molecular research and applied conservation across unique biomes.
