Author Biographies

Dr. Panagiotis Kourtesis earned his PhD in Experimental Psychology & Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh and furthered his post-doctoral research at France’s National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (INRIA), contributing to the EU-Horizon 2020-Tactility project. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology and the Head of the Psychology Network Lab (PsyNet Lab) at the Psychology Department of the American College of Greece. He is also the Leader of the Neuro-HCI XR research team at the ACG Research Centre. Additionally, he is a Senior Researcher at both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunication of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Furthermore, he contributes as a Visitor Academic at the Psychology Department of the University of Edinburgh. His professional interests lie in immersive technologies (VR & XR), human-computer interaction, and cognitive neuroscience, specifically focusing on frontal lobe functions and ergonomics.

Dr. Eleni Orfanidou is an Assistant Professor of the Psychology Department at Deree—The American College of Greece. She graduated from the University of Athens with a BA in Philology (specialization: Linguistics). She earned her MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Imperial College of Science, Medicine and Technology, University of London, and completed her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, University of Cambridge. From 2006-2009, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at University College London, at the Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre (2010-2012 Honorary Research Fellow). At the same time, she worked as a part-time Lecturer of Cognitive Development at City University London. From 2011 to 2019, she was a Lecturer and then Associate Professor of Cognitive/Experimental Psychology at the University of Crete, Department of Psychology. Her research interests include behavioral and neural correlates of spoken language processing, orthographic and morphological processes in visual word recognition, and behavioral and neural correlates of signed language processing.
Dr. Chrysanthi Nega is an associate professor of psychology at Deree—The American College of Greece. She earned her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from City University, London, UK. She has been teaching courses and supervising theses, both at the graduate and undergraduate level, since 2002. In addition, Dr. Nega has held administrative positions as head and assistant head of the Psychology Department and she currently serves as Program Coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Psychology program. Her research and academic interests are in the areas of experimental methodology investigating topics such as memory awareness for facial stimuli, facial affect recognition, working memory, and moral decision making. Since 2016, she has been serving as a senior research coordinator for the “Safe-Touches” Sexual Abuse Prevention Program delivered in public elementary schools.
