Prof. Patrick S. Moore is a Distinguished Professor in the Cancer Virology Program at the Hillman Cancer Center and the Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh. He holds an MD and an MPhil in Anatomy and Cell Biology from the University of Utah, an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco, an MS in Biophysical Chemistry from Stanford University, and a BS from Westminster College. He completed his postdoctoral and residency training at l’Hôpital Général Juif, McGill University in Montréal, and as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. An elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and several other professional honor societies, he is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Clarivate Laureate, Paul Ehrlich Prize, Passano Award, Mott Award, Robert Koch Prize, Meyenburg Cancer Research Prize, and the CDC-Langmuir Award. His research focuses on the link between viruses and cancer, aiming to understand why certain viruses evolve to cause cancer while others result in milder illnesses such as the common cold.
