Author Biographies

Sachesh Silwal earned his master’s degree in Applied Science (Research) in Agriculture from CQUniversity, Australia, in 2017 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Agronomy at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He served as a Project Officer and Plant Breeder at Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research, and Development (LI-BIRD) (www.libird.org) in Nepal from 2007 to 2013, focusing on plant breeding and agrobiodiversity management projects. Afterwards, he moved to Australia to complete his master’s studies (2014-2017). He then gained experience in the horticulture industry (2018-2019) as a nursery manager and the sugar industry (2019–2020) as a laboratory analyst in Bundaberg, Australia, before starting his PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2020. His research mainly focuses on Agronomy, Plant Physiology, and Plant Breeding (participatory plant breeding). Throughout his career, he has worked with various crops, including rice, mungbean, barley, maize, and avocado, across different agro-ecologies (dryland, mountain, temperate, and tropical) and farming systems, encompassing both commercial and subsistence farming. He is currently a member of The Australian Society of Agronomy in Australia and also a general member of Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research and Development (LI-BIRD) (www.libird.org), Nepal.
