Cynthia X. Ma is a Professor in the Division of Oncology, Department of Medicine, Washington University, with a research focus on pre-clinical and early-phase clinical investigations of developing molecular therapeutics for breast cancer through collaborative research. She received her MD from Beijing Medical University in 1990 and earned her Ph.D. in developmental biology from the University of Cincinnati in 1997. She served as an Internal Medicine Intern (1998–1999) and Internal Medicine Resident (1999–2001) at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and completed her hematology and medical oncology fellowship at the Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic (2001–2005). She has been awarded the 2015–2013 NCI Cancer Clinical Investigator Team Leadership Award, the 2013–2011 CALGB Clinical Scholar Award, the 2011–2008 ASCO Career Development Award, the 2005 ASCPT Poster Presentation Blue Ribbon Award, etc. She also serves as a member of the Chinese American Hematologist Oncologist Network, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research, and the American Medical Association. Her main research interests include pharmacogenomics of anticancer agents, predictive biomarkers, and developmental therapeutics.
