Dr. Dirk W. Lachenmeier is Head of the Department of Plant-based Foods at the State Institute for Chemical Analysis and Veterinary Diagnostics (CVUA) Karlsruhe, Germany, where he has worked since 2003. He completed his studies in Food Chemistry at the University of Bonn (1994-1998) and earned his doctorate in Forensic Toxicology (2000-2003). Dr. Lachenmeier has been a regular expert contributor to the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) working groups since 2007 and is a member of the Food Chemical Society within the German Chemical Society and the DFG Senate Commission on Food Safety (SKLM) working group on food constituents. His research expertise encompasses food authenticity using NMR spectroscopy, with a particular focus on coffee quality and authenticity analysis. He developed the innovative "NMR Coffee Screener" for coffee quality control and has conducted extensive research on coffee by-products including coffee leaves, coffee flowers, and cascara. Dr. Lachenmeier chaired the International Coffee Conventions 2023 and 2024 in Mannheim and continues to advance coffee authentication methods. He has authored over 600 scientific publications with more than 23,000 citations and received the Bruno Rossmann Award from the Food Chemical Society in 2005.
