Gonçalo Maia Marques is an Adjunct Professor at Viana do Castelo Polytechnic Institute's School of Education. He coordinates the Master's Degree Course in Teaching the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education (since 2021). He is a member of the Technical-Scientific Council (elected for 2022-2025) and the Pedagogical Council (elected from 2019 to the present). He also teaches at the School of Technology and Management, namely, in the Tourism and Gastronomy programs. He also taught at the University of Porto (FLUP), University of Minho's Institute of Education, Portucalense University, Maia University and the Polytechnic Institute of Maia. He won the Alberto Sampaio History Prize from the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (2023). He received a Ph.D. scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2009-2011). He has a degree (2006) and a Ph.D. (2011) in History from the University of Porto. He graduated from the Specialization Course in History Teaching at the same institution (2007). Post-Doctorate in Educational Sciences from the University of Minho (2018). He is a Researcher at INED (Centre for Research and Innovation in Education). He has published several books, chapters, and national and international articles in the fields of History and Heritage Education, the History and Civilization of Vineyards and Wine, and Tourism and Cultural Heritage in its relationship with the environment.
