Dr. Ivan Brukner is a molecular diagnostics scientist with a broad international background in molecular biology. He received his early scientific education in Serbia and earned a Ph.D. in molecular biotechnology in Europe, conducting doctoral research at leading institutes in Italy and Germany. After his PhD training, he continued his research career in Canada, working in both academic and biotechnology settings. Dr. Brukner is currently the Technical Co-Director of the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory at the Jewish General Hospital and a research scientist at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research in Montreal. He has made significant contributions to rapid nucleic acid-based diagnostics for infectious diseases—for example, he helped develop ultra-fast PCR assays and LDT for pathogens such as MRSA, Clostridium difficile, and VRE. He is also the founder of ExD Inc., a biotechnology company focused on multiplex ultrafast PCR and microfluidic chip-based diagnostic technologies for point-of-care applications. Dr. Brukner has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in his field, and his research contributions have garnered more than 2,500 citations to date.
