Author Biographies

Yoshio Karasawa received his M.E. and Dr. Eng. degrees from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1977 and 1992, respectively. He joined KDD R&D Labs. in 1977. From 1999 to 2016, he was a professor at the University of Electro-Communications (UEC Tokyo), and currently, he is a professor emeritus at UEC. He has engaged in studies on wave propagation and antennas, particularly on theoretical analysis and measurements for wave-propagation phenomena, such as multipath fading in mobile radio systems, tropospheric and ionospheric scintillation, and rain attenuation. Dr. Karasawa received the Young Engineer Award from IECE of Japan in 1983, the Meritorious Award on Radio from the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB, Japan) in 1998, a Research Award from ICF in 2006, two Paper Awards from IEICE in 2006, Best Tutorial Awards in 2007 and 2008 from ComSoc of IEICE, and the Tokyo Meritorious Award (Technology Promotion) in 2017. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and IEICE (Japan).
