Liberty McAuley received a BSc in Psychology from the University of Manitoba in 2024. This paper describes the results of her Honours thesis. Liberty’s research interests include the use of verbal irony across developmental cohorts, its impact on social relationships, and the contextual factors that influence the use and comprehension of verbal irony.
Melanie Glenwright is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba. Melanie received a PhD in Experimental Psychology from the University of Calgary in 2006. Her Communication and Development Laboratory examines children’s and adults’ understanding of gossip, verbal irony, sarcasm, and prosocial teasing. Her research examines how this understanding is influenced by cues, culture, and perspective-taking skills.
