Author Biographies

Dr. Rudolph J. Castellani is a neuropathology professor at the Department of Pathology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, and has served as the associate director of the Neuropath Core. He received his MD from Wayne State University, where he completed an anatomic pathology residency. He also completed a neuropathology fellowship at Case Western Reserve University. He was formerly a tenured professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine, and has directed neuropathology divisions at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine, and West Virginia University. Dr. Castellani has published extensively on the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases, with over 250 peer-reviewed publications, reviews, book chapters, and editorials. He is the recipient of numerous awards for scientific merit, clinical service, and teaching, including the 2010 Alzheimer Medal and the 2011 Harlan I. Firminger Award for excellence in pathology teaching. Dr. Castellani is ranked number 53 in the world in expertise in Alzheimer’s disease across all medical and scientific disciplines.
