Dr. Shuguang Deng is a professor at the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport, and Energy, Arizona State University. Before joining ASU, he was the Distinguished Bob Davis Professor at New Mexico State University (NMSU). He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Zhejiang University in 1984 and 1987. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1996 and worked as a lead research engineer in The BOC Group in New Jersey before joining NMSU in 2003. He became an associate professor in 2006 and professor in 2009. He was a research and development manager in Nanjing Refinery, SINOPEC, China before coming to America in 1992 to pursue his doctorate in chemical engineering. His research interests include adsorbents, catalysts, and membranes for sustainable energy and clean water applications.
Dr. Ellie Fini is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University, an Invention Ambassador at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Fulbright Scholar of the Aalborg University of Denmark, a Senior Sustainability Scientist at the Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation, and Director of the Innovation Network for Materials, Methods, and Management. She is editor of the ASCE Journal of Materials and Journal of Resources, Conservation and Recycling. She has served as the president of ASCE’s North Carolina Northern Branch and a program director of the National Science Foundation. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign. Her achievements have been recognized via multiple awards including the NSF CAREER award, the ASEE Gerald Seeley award, and the BEYA Emerald STEM Innovation award. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and atomistic modeling of novel materials to promote the sustainability and health of civil infrastructure.
