Dr. Giulio Severi is the Veterinary Director at the
Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale dell’Umbria e delle Marche. He obtained
his degree in veterinary medicine in 2000 from the Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine, UNIPG; his specialization in animal health in 2004 from the Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine, UNIBO; his master's in biotechnology in 2006 from the
University of Urbino; and his doctorate of research (Ph.D.) in 2010 from the
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UNIPG. He also holds a master’s degree in medical
management (2016) from ISTUM, Milan. Since 2014, he has been a member of the
Organization Responsible for Animal Welfare of IZSUM. He is scientific director
of numerous research projects financed by the Italian Ministry of Health. His
research topics mainly include (1) autologous and autogenous veterinary vaccine
production, (2) immunology and immune response systems in different animal
models, (3) biotech vaccine R&D, (4) citofluorimetric analysis, (5) PPD
production, and (6) GMP vaccine production.
Dr. Antonio Lavazza has taken a degree in Veterinary
Medicine and of Specialization in "Technology and pathology of avian
species, lagomorphs and wildlife”, at the University of Milan, Italy. He has worked since 1988 at the Virology Unit of IZSLER, initially as responsible for the
Electron Microscopy Lab and since 2014 as head of the Virology Unit, and from
2020 to 2024 as Head of the Animal Health and Welfare Department. He has been retired since December 2024. He has been involved in
avian and rabbit pathology since the beginning of his activity, acting from
1991 to 1998 as Designed Expert at the OIE Reference Laboratory for Rabbit
Hemorrhagic Disease and from 2012 to now as Designed Expert at the OIE
Reference Laboratory for Myxomatosis, both assigned to the IZSLER of Brescia. He has a teaching activity at the Specialization Schools of the University of Milano, Bologna and Napoli.
