Prof. Dr. Maria J. Melo is a Full Professor at the Department of Conservation and Restoration, NOVA School of Science and Technology. She is also the coordinator of its PhD Program in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. She is also a senior scientist at the research centers LAQV-Requimte and the Institute of Medieval Studies at NOVA and the head of the Cultural Heritage line. She holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1995) from the Nova School of Science and Technology. Her current challenge is to enhance her interdisciplinary research and approach, at the intersection of social and natural sciences while promoting public engagement. She is the author of over 120 publications in scientific journals listed on the Web of Science. She has supervised 22 successful PhD theses and serves on the editorial board of Heritage Science and Dyes and Pigments.
