Doctor Emanuel Maldonado (E.M.) is an interdisciplinary researcher in Bioinformatics. He was awarded Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (focused on Evolutionary Genomics) in 2020, following the doctoral course in Environmental Sciences and Technology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. From the same organic unit, his background lies in B.Sc. (2007) and M.Sc. (2009) degrees in Computer Science, specialized in Parallel and Distributed Systems. EM carried out his doctoral work at CIIMAR-UP - Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Porto. Since 2020, he has been affiliated with the University of Beira Interior (UBI), having participated in the Cloud Computing project (C4-UBI) as a Post-doc research fellow and later as Executive Director. Posteriorly he became affiliated with CICS-UBI/RISE-Health-UBI, initially as Invited Auxiliary Researcher and currently as a Post-doctoral research fellow and Manager of the Bioinformatics Laboratory. His current research interests include Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Multi-Omics, Genomic Medicine and Evolutionary Genomics.

Professor Doctor Manuel C. Lemos (M.C.L.) is a Clinical Endocrinologist, Professor of Endocrinology, and Principal Investigator, at the RISE-Health, University of Beira Interior (RISE-Health-UBI), Covilhã, Portugal. MCL holds a Medical Degree (MD) (1995) and an MSc in Cell Biology (2003), from the University of Coimbra, Portugal; and a PhD in Clinical Medicine (2008) from the University of Oxford, UK. He undertook his clinical training at the University Hospital of Coimbra, Portugal, where he completed his medical specialty in Endocrinology & Nutrition (2003). His research has been funded by the FCT, the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, the Portuguese Society of Diabetology, and by Regional Strategic Funding. MCL has received awards from the Portuguese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, the Portuguese Society of Diabetology, and the British Endocrine Society. He began his academic career as Teaching Assistant (1996) in Medical Genetics, at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, and later as an Assistant Professor (2008), Associate Professor (2015) and Full Professor (2022) in Endocrinology, at UBI. MCL is currently the President of the Portuguese Board of Medical Specialists in Endocrinology and the Coordinator of the Bioinformatics Laboratory.
