Prof. Haiying Huang is a professor at the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas Arlington. She received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aircraft propulsion from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) in 1987, a M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1997 and 1998 respectively. She has extensive industrial and academic experiences. Before joining the University of Texas Arlington, she has worked as a Mechanical Engineering at FMC Corporation and a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories. In addition, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology, a research scientist at Clark Atlanta University, and an assistant professor at Purdue University. Currently, she is the head of the Advanced Sensor Technology Laboratory at UTA. Her research interests include passive wireless sensors, ultrasound sensors, optical fiber sensors, and fracture/fatigue of aerospace structures. She has published more than 150 journal and conference publications, 1 book chapter, and has 8 US patents granted. She is a recipient of 2008 NSF CAREER award, 2007 Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship, and 2018 ORISE fellowship. She is a lifetime member of SPIE and AIAA.
