Dong-Yan Jin completed his PhD studies with Prof. Yun-De Hou at the State Key Laboratory for Molecular Virology in Beijing from 1986 to 1991. He received postdoctoral training with Dr. Kuan-Teh Jeang at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1994 to 1999. He joined the University of Hong Kong in 1999 and is now the Clara and Lawrence Fok Professor in Precision Medicine. His research focuses primarily on the molecular basis of viral diseases and cancer. He employs a combination of biochemical and genetic approaches to conduct basic research in molecular virology and oncology and to apply the knowledge gained to the prevention and control of human diseases. One major area of his current research is in the regulatory mechanism of innate antiviral response. Novel cellular and viral regulatory factors that govern the antiviral response will be identified and characterized.
Kit-San Yuen earned his Bachelor's degree in Applied Biology with Biotechnology from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He pursued his PhD in Molecular Virology at the University of Hong Kong, concentrating on research related to the Epstein–Barr virus in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, virus and innate immunity, and CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing. In 2020, Sam became a senior lecturer in the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Tung Wah College, and in 2022, he was promoted to assistant professor in the School of Nursing. He continues to focus his research on virology and microbial detection.
