Khara M. Sauro is an Associate Professor in the
Department of Surgery, University of Calgary, with cross appointments in the
Departments of Community Health Sciences and Oncology. She is also a member of
the O’Brien Institute for Public Health and the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer
Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Community Health Sciences (Health Services
Research) from the University of Calgary and completed a postdoctoral
fellowship in Implementation Science within the Department of Critical Care
Medicine (University of Calgary). Her research focuses on improving the quality
and safety of care for patients with Head and Neck Cancer, especially those who
undergo major surgical treatment, to optimize the health of these patients. She
has a particular interest in leveraging routinely collected administrative data
to evaluate the quality of healthcare and the application of knowledge
translation and quality improvement methodologies for improving healthcare
delivery.
Shamir P. Chandarana is a Clinical Associate
Professor at the Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, University of
Calgary. He completed Medical School and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
residency training at Western University in London, Ontario. He then pursued a
two-year fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery and Microvascular
Reconstruction at the University of Michigan. Concurrently, he also completed a
Master's in Public Health. His research interests include biomarker expression
in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (markers of more aggressive tumors), functional
outcomes after major head and neck surgery, clinical care pathways to streamline
complex treatment algorithms, and epidemiologic practice patterns in the
management of thyroid cancer.
