Jorge Fonseca (MD, PhD) is a Full Professor of Pathophysiology/Clinical Pathology at the Egas
Moniz School of Health and Science, where he serves as the Chairman of the
Scientific Council of ESSEM as well as the head of the “Aging Lab” of the Egas Moniz
Center for Interdisciplinary Research. He is a Medical Doctor, Gastroenterology
Specialist and a Clinical Nutrition Specialist, recognized by the Portuguese
Medical Association, where he serves as director of the Clinical Nutrition
Board. He also has a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and
Metabolism from the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism
(ESPEN), where he served as a member of the Scientific Committee. Jorge Fonseca's
clinical career primarily began in the Hospital Garcia de Orta, where he
was a Senior Consultant and served as the Head of the Artificial Nutrition Team, Chairman of the Committee on Nutrition, Head of the Special Exams Unit, and Director of the Gastroenterology Department. He has supervised 7 PhD projects and over 30 Master's projects. He is the author of more
than 100 papers on PubMed and several chapters of scientific books. His main
research interests are Clinical Nutrition, Digestive Disorders, and Aging
Disorders, with special focus on the relations between Nutrition, Aging Digestive System and Aging Nervous System.
