Birnur Deniz graduated from Marmara University's Faculty of Theology in 2014, and she obtained a master's degree from the same institution in 2017. She completed her doctoral dissertation on Ottoman transaction law at Istanbul University's Department of Islamic Law in 2024. In 2021-2022, she was a visiting researcher at Columbia University. Deniz currently conducts independent research focusing on the functioning of Islamic law, the relationship between fiqh and fatwa, and historical financing methods in the Ottoman and pre-Ottoman Hanafi school of thought.
