Dr. Adele Broodryk is a senior lecturer at the North-West University and a professional ultra-distance road runner. She holds a PhD in Human Movement Sciences within the field of sport science and an interest in sports recovery to optimize performance. As a professional athlete, she is keen to take her knowledge and research to the practical field, and vice versa. She has completed the Comrades marathon twice, finishing third and second, respectively, with the latter being the 3rd fastest time in history. She is also a keen researcher within the field of recovery and cortisol analysis, with a special focus on sleep as a recovery aid. She has been involved with multiple sport codes as a sport scientist, providing motivational talks to various groups and athletes. Currently, she acts as the program leader within the subgroup Sport
Science in the School of Human Movement Sciences, teaching modules within the fields of exercise science, exercise psychology and exercise physiology.
