at the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga Nanomedicine Platform (IBIMA-Plataforma
BIONAND), linked to the Clinical Unit of Neurosciences of the Regional
University Hospital of Málaga (Nicolás Monardes Programme). Co-director of the
IBIMA Consolidated Research Group C01 Neuroimmunology and Neuroinflammation.
Director of the Research Group CTS643 in Applied Neuropsychopharmacology (Andalusian
R+D+I Plan). Registered healthcare biologist. Research focused on the study of neural
genesis, neuroimmune diseases (multiple sclerosis, autoimmune epilepsy), and advanced therapies. Currently, also COVID-19 neurological sequelae as well as Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease. PhD from
the University of Málaga, and Marie Curie Fellow (UE) postdoctoral in the
School of Medicine of the University of Edinburgh. Currently, a member of the
Andalusian Network of Clinical and Translational Research in Neurology
(Neuro-RECA), Spanish Research Network in Long COVID, and Spanish and
Andalusian Epilepsy Societies. Continued funding in competitive calls since
2002, h-index of 25, 10 doctoral theses and 5 Master’s degree dissertations
directed. Holder of the I3 Certificate, a recognition of an outstanding research
career, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and
Universities.
Head of Service and Director of the Neurosciences Unit of
the Regional University Hospital of Malaga since 2016. Previously, he also
directed the Neurosciences Unit of the Torrecárdenas University Hospital, where
he worked as a Neurologist for more than 20 years. Head of Neurology
Service at the Vithas Málaga and Xanit Benalmádena Hospitals.Principal
investigator of the consolidated group C01 "Neuroimmunology and
Neuroinflammation" of the Biomedical Research Institute of Malaga (IBIMA-Bionand
Platform). Associate Professor of Neurology in the Department of Medicine of
the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaga. Coordinator of the
Neuro-RECA Network of Clinical and Translational Research in Neurology of
Andalusia since 2019, as well as the Andalusia-Roche Alliance of Precision
Neurology. Principal investigator of 10 competitively funded research projects
at the regional or national level. Author of 149 publications in journals indexed
in JCR, leading 80 of them. H-index of 31 (Google Scholar). Epilepsy Award from
the Spanish Society of Neurology in 2015 and the Scientific Research Award from the
Andalusian Society of Neurology in 2022.
