Emmanuel Karungani Simiyu is a postgraduate student currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Physics at Maseno University, Kenya, and is undertaking a research exchange program at Daugavpils University, Latvia, under the Erasmus+ mobility scheme. He received his Bachelor of Education Science with IT (Physics and Chemistry) from Maseno University in 2022. His academic and research interests lie in materials science, particularly in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, thin films, and organic semiconductors for optoelectronic and renewable energy applications. He has worked on various research projects, including the development of benzanthrone derivatives for organic solar cells, the enhancement of P3HT thin films with gold nanoparticles, and spectral conversion analysis using rare-earth-doped indium selenide. His skills span thin film deposition techniques, like spin coating and spray pyrolysis, and characterization tools, including UV-VIS, SEM, FTIR, and XRD. He is an active mentor at Maseno University, and previously served as a Physics and Chemistry teacher. He has received support from TWAS and ICTP, and is a recipient of the Erasmus+ mobility award. He is passionate about applying advanced materials research to solve energy and sustainability challenges.
