Richard Marchand is a Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Alberta, Canada. He received his B.Sc. from Université de Montréal and his M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Toronto. He then completed his Ph.D. in Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University.  Prior to his current position, he was a Research Associate at the University of Maryland College Park, and an NSERC University Research Fellow at the University of Alberta. Richard Marchand’s research interests include computational physics, satellite and satellite instruments' interaction with the space environment, space plasmas, Earth magnetosphere and solar wind interaction with the Earth environment, finite element modelling, automatic generation of structured and unstructured meshes, visualisation, and controlled thermonuclear fusion in magnetically confined plasma.
