Ruby Naomi Michael is a Senior Lecturer in Ecological Engineering at the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Griffith University and the lead and founder of Green Infrastructure Research Labs (GIRLS). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, and a Ph.D., all from The University of Melbourne. She represents Australia globally on the International Society of Ecological Engineering board and is a member of the scientific committee for the 2025 International Ecological Engineering Society Conference in Iceland. She is an International expert on phytocapping, a nature-based solution for landfill and mine waste capping, where she has more than 20 years experience of delivering high-quality engineering design and ecological after-use outcomes for the rehabilitation and closure of legacy sites.
