Dr. Sofia Guillermina Burillo-Amezcua is a researcher at the
Department of Radiation Chemistry and Radiochemistry, Institute of Nuclear
Sciences, head of the Macromolecules Laboratory I, and professor at the Faculty
of Sciences and Chemistry, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She earned
her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and
her Ph.D from Pierre et Marie Curie University (1983). She has received
national and international awards for her academic career, including the
National Chemistry Award and the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Award. She
specializes in polymer characterization, the formation of “interpenetrating
polymer networks”, and the grafting of temperature-responsive intelligent
polymer systems. She currently works in drug retention and release and tissue
engineering.
